It is indeed an honor to write to you today as we celebrate 25 years of Progression. This organization, which started as a student club on the campus of Florida State University has developed into an incorporated non-for-profit organization with chapters spanning across the state of Florida and beyond. During this period of time where young organizations struggle to survive, PBM has maintained continued growth in both service impact and membership. We should all be proud of the legacy that has been created and the great potential the we have to create a dynamic impact in the African/American community.
With recent events stemming from the situation in Ferguson Missouri to the campus shooting at our founding institution, I encourage the organization to maintain its purpose to reconstruct and redefine the image of African American men. We are be using Our Collective Knowledge to educate the youth, Our Collective Effort to create initiatives to bring awareness to systemic social injustices–including proper treatment for mentally ill– and its effect on African Americans. Our Collective Strength to become change agents in our local community by providing services to those who need “a boost and a helping hand.” PBM is needed more now than ever, and I am confident it will rise to the occasion.
Congratulations on 25 years of Academic Excellence, Communal Support and Brotherly Fellowship!
